alright. skipped the first story bc i simply could not deal w how often i was being forced to read the n word on the page. lovecraft wtf is wrong with you. a couple of these i read in 'the dream cycle' collection, so i've skipped those as well. mostly these have just been unfortunately very boring, many of them featuring thinly veiled eugenics & phrenology that i simply do not have the patience for.

Maja If you need a break from it but want to stay in the tradition, "The Dream Quest of Vellitt Boe" by Kij Johnson is a modern rewrite of a Lovecraft story that's pretty cool, or else "The City We Became" by N.K. Jemisin is a black author writing very Lovecraftian horror but in modern New York :)

aja i loved "the dream quest of vellitt boe"! read that uhhhh, last year, i think? really enjoyed it. i'm not the biggest jemisin fan but this is one i hadn't heard of so i will def check it out! my plan atm is to see how i feel about the first couple cthulhu stories & then if i'm still not having fun i will just move on to something else lol
