The first short story took me by surprise. I don't know what I was expecting from Ali Smith's Seasonal Quartet, but an opening story on death and the afterlife, painted in such an interestingly subtle way wasn't it.

Two quotes from this story stuck out to me,

"Thank you for having me, death. Please excuse me, must get back to it, life." (p. 5)

"Is there still mother after death?" (p. 11)
