When the reader snorts in derision, that's not usually a good sign.
1. The obsession with blood. Everything looks like blood or drips blood: flags, alcohol, even a character's (metaphorically) broken heart.
2. Unrealistic descriptions: While posing for pictures, "Fola held him in place, her arms encircling his, making sure he was upright like the puppets they both were." How?? Does she have him in a wrestling hold?
