Connolly references James Lee Burke a lot, but his dialogue is pure Elmore Leonard. Some of it is so good that I want to stand up and recite it for an audience. Take his amazing character sketches in this book. He zings em by pretty fast, but the section in this book where Charlie Parker is out interviewing Dr. Robert Christian, Eldrith Jr.’s Receptionist, Eldritch, and then Jerry Legere is pure gold.
