Notes from the Underground is a nauseating, captivating read. Dostoevsky captures how those of the greatest abilities live a life of inaction through paralysing hyperconsciousness. The nameless protagonist perfectly embodies this trap, his paralysis fuelled by perfectionism and a suffocating fear of failure.
