As the American west begins to feel the effects of a projected historic El Niño and a historic drought impacting western states, it’s a fascinating time to read The Emerald Mile and the events of 1983. Kevin Fedarko’s prose in describing the Grand Canyon, the dories, and the many expeditions down the canyon is absolutely beautiful. Fedarko narrating the book brings the story to life in the best ways.
