1862 was Grant's year. Hard to believe how many ventures he failed at before his appointment to General.

Ft. Sumter and First Manassas (Bull Run) covered. Promotions handed out like candy- but firings or "suggested" resignations happened a lot too.

I knew that a ton of Confederate Officers came from the Union Army and/or West Point, but I didn't know that they technically could've been arrested/imprisoned for "resigning to a secessionist-minded state" even though it makes sense for that to be an option. What irony that the arrests were considered, but then rejected because "it might escalate to war."

Pretty good outline of the war, and a compelling criteria for how they identified the "most decisive" battles to include in this book.
