You know what, this might be an 8-8.5 simply for uniqueness, vibes, and readability.

It feels like the cover (which is stunningggg) and it’s easy to consume, which I really, really needed.

She took off his glasses when he fell asleep and that was adorable.

But then they woke up and she was trying to fluster him and said things like “You kept your hands to yourself” and “No, you were very well behaved”

The mystery aspect is nice; I want to find out what is going on. But perhaps that is because so much of this is so absurdly odd. I hope Reid intended for it to feel like that, bc every other page, she describes an event or Effy thinks some really weird thought and I’m like..

wtf???

The writing style just bothers me. You design an entire mansion and all you say is “she began drawing”??? She threw herself out of the car and the next scene is her already back at the house?

The fmc feels so flat, and it’s probably because the author skips over every time she actually does something!

I’ve never felt telling vs showing so strongly. It makes my face scrunch up every time.

I’m honestly really concerned that I can’t read physical books anymore because I get so distracted and a single page takes way too long.

But at least for now I do think I’m just reading bad books, because I loved reading the physical of The Ashes and the Star Cursed King.

I need to read better books 😭I miss when I was younger and so much less critical of what I read.

Idk if I’m just being negative but..

The world building has potential, the writing is not great.

If this is supposed to be enemies or rivals to lovers… terrible first meeting. Very cringey and poorly executed, but I do think I’m in a bad mood and that makes it worse.

Another big problem for me: the cover has a brunette and she is blonde. Someone explain.

I need to stay positive tho 🖊️🌊☕️📜
