Set before the Civil War, Freewater is told through different perspectives. The book follows twelve-year-old Homer and his seven year old sister, Ada, whose lives change forever during a midniht escape from the harsh Southerland plantation serving as slaves. They run deep into the wild Great Dismal Swamp to find a safe and active secret community of old enslaved people.

Character vs. self: The conflict In Freewater is Character vs. self because the conflict changes between much guilt and scary danger with Homer. Homer is safe in the secret safe spot of Freewater but is emotionally scarred for leaving his mother, Rose, behind on the plantation. while, the community faces tension as Sanzi takes crazy risks, ignoring the very real threat of getting caught by slave catchers.

Predictions: I predict that Homer and Ada will face more experienced challenges while trying to stay safe in Freewater. Since they escaped from the plantation, they must learn to survive and avoid being discovered. The dangers they faced before escaping make me think their freedom will not come easily. I predict they will need courage and teamwork to protect themselves and their new home.

POV: The Point of View in the book "Freewater" is in first person. The reason I know this is because we are always listening to twelve year old Homer who is the main character in this story. In the first paragraph of "Freewater" It states "He knew we'd try to escape," This proves that the main character is the narrator and the book is in a first person Point Of View.
