"'Honey, this is Baldur's Gate. If there's not a dozen cults operating out of attics and warehouses and holes in the ground, people start to wonder why they're paying taxes.'" (not Astarion dialogue) see, I don't think Kingfisher is the wrong author for _A_ BG3 book. why didn't they tap her for a Gale book? her twee British-passing we-have-Pratchett-at-home vibe would have been ideal for Gale. only semi-derogatory!

But this is so distinctly Paladin's Grace, a book I could stomach so little of that I didn't even bother marking it as DNF, and I just. I don't understaaaaand. How did we get here. Who is this FOR. [ranting continues for an hour but who gives a shit tbh]

I don't want to be a broken record but, truly, I wasn't skeptical when I heard about Kingfisher being the author because I really do like the Sworn Soldier books (the first two, anyway, haven't gotten to the third, but mostly the first) and I was sure that she would lean into her more serious horror chops for Astarion's situation.

I wonder how Kingfisher got this book. Who decided that her style would suit Astarion. Because I keep thinking about the alternate universe where Silvia Moreno-Garcia wrote the Astarion book and I have to go lie down.
