The fact that we’re now able to give half stars when rating a book is actually annoying me. I’d always wished I could rate things 3.5 or whatever, but I have thousands of ratings now and don’t think I want to go back through them all. I probably will though dammit.

Actually never mind. That’s way too much work, plus I don’t want to spam everyone’s update feed every time I change a rating.

It feels like too little, too late. Take away lots of great features over the past few years, and then finally give us one of relatively marginal value that we've been begging for since the beginning. As if that's going to make up for how much the site has suffered under Amazon's ownership.
Goodreads finally decided to resolve some of the issues their users have complained about - unfortunately they used a monkey's paw to do so.
I'm with your second thought, Jack—I will not be going back and changing stars either. For me, the star rating has always been just a quick take; the nuance is in the review itself. And that's what I appreciate about your reviews, and those of my other friends and followed folks on Goodreads... not just the quick take, but the thought behind that take.APS

Yeah I might use half stars going forward but I know it’s gonna bug me when I rate something 4.5 stars and think about other books that are just as good that I only gave a 4. Definitely a first world problem, though!
I wondered about that after seeing half-stars on recent reviews. I just figured it was yet another thing that I couldn't figure out online.
You can also assign quarter and three-quarter stars, which takes it to another level of absurdity.
I definitely can't handle going back and obsessing over my star-ratings. I'll blink and it'll be four hours later. I'll just echo what Alan said- the reviews are where it's at.
