I feel it would have made more sense for this teacher to say some debate team shit about the quality of arguments here.

Right off the bat my first impression is that Barry is going for a self deprecating humor that isn't working. But that's just the author's note, so I'm hoping the actual book has less of that. The map's humor is a little better.
