I just finished chapters 19 and 20 of the book and honestly I think that was one of the most illuminating and heartbreaking chapters in the book. First of all we learn that for some reason only the children with light colored eyes can be receivers… also of the fact that Jonas’s father is literally is fucking baby killer… like dead serious he is the executioner of babies… all in all definitely cried.

It’s honestly getting really deep… I’m at a loss for words.

I really like how the writer fully went into depth about all the questions you could really have about the society. I also think it’s honestly a really sick and bland world and it really is making me think about how much identity is in simple things like your name, birthday, sense of style, etc.

Honestly the book is appalling in the best way possible. It’s very philosophical in a myriad of ways. But what I am specifically finding very intriguing so far is how the writer took so much identity away from the society as a whole in the book- from their birthdays collectively being celebrated in December, to everyone having brown eyes, to them choosing the babies names, etc. it’s honestly very frightening.
