Done. I think it holds up well. There were things in the storytelling that wouldn’t have bothered me when I was ten but I noticed now, like the dog’s improbable survival. It’s early 90s YA horror so it obviously doesn’t compare to the works of Stephen King, but it’s better than the First Horror and that’s what I’m comparing it to. I didn’t laugh at the text. Original rating of three star remains.

Seven chapters down. Angela’s trying to figure out the whats, whens, wheres, and whys, which is something I don’t remember from my original read. (I’m past the hamburger part, though. Didn’t get to the contortionist thing yet.) I also don’t remember the cop so the in-betweens are a blank. I like how there’s preamble. Straight to the action. Second page and Mary’s blowing them away!

This is a nostalgic reread. I actually remember quite a bit: how it begins, how it ends, and that my favorite character was a boy named Kevin. I also remember cortortionism being explored in some way (a window I think) and the main character chowing down on too many hamburgers. I haven’t gotten to those parts yet but Kevin has made an appearance. The writing’s simple, but I’m not reading this for complexity!
