So far I am finding this book tender and serene. It could be because I am only an hour in and the story revolves around women with quiet strength. Helen is a calm and collected woman and a doting mother. Her daughter Mido is also quiet from the outside but resolute from the inside.

I can relate to Bo, the toxic addiction to hard work and obsession with a goal.
Tek (Tec?) and Mido are a bit too saccharine and vanilla for my taste, maybe that’s just young love?

A crazy turn of events has happened and the family has been pushed into crisis. There is a sense of quiet acceptance of fate.
John falls short and the family takes it all in without bringing perpetrators to justice or fighting too much.
The plot is engaging so far that I would continue to listen to it. Writing wise it’s ok, but I find it hard to judge in an audiobook. Maybe will come to a conclusion at the end.

The plot so far is engaging, I lose patience with audiobooks faster than I do with physical books so that’s something. The narrator Yerin Ha does a really good job with the dialogues and affectations - I have resisted the urge to listen to this book at 2x.

listening to the book on Spotify during my morn runs. Incidentally I picked up Pachinko around the same time last year to listen to during my trail runs. I got so engrossed in the book that I slipped over a rock that was jutting out and ended up with a sprained right ankle to accompany my left ACL knee-took me out for a week. No regrets. This time this book accompanies me during road runs so hopefully a safer read.
