I like how Huxley expected to see hallucinations, like monsters or demons, after taking mescaline but really he saw the beauty and the existence in things like a chair or the creases in his trousers. Once the filter that forces the brain to focus on survival is removed through the intake of mescaline the doors of perception are therefore unlocked. Now reading his Heaven and Hell essay.
