“They looked too much like me, and their faces, like mine, were in pain. In their humiliation, they reminded me of what I had become.”

“Somewhere in the immensity of the lie the truth gleams like the pure, light-glazed bones of an extinct angel.”

Jesus Christ man…

Nooo! Now I hate the story! It had a perfect game going and now it’s trash 😭

“I’ve been so bored I almost read a book.”

"I needed the symbol of something worthy of encounter on the road, to test the resonance and mettle of my own humanity. If I could always be waging war against [an adversary], I would never have to turn a cold eye inward to discover the subtle and unexamined evil in myself."

"In the Law of the Corps it was better to carry your beliefs to an extreme than to be faithless... cruelty was easier to forgive than apostasy."

“The institute was doing its job well and preparing its two thousand sons in the barracks to die prettily for their country.”

“I wonder how many humans have died because sons wanted to prove themselves worthy of their fathers.”
