I like how Hooks mentions that you learn love first as children. I’m also a strong believer in no physical punishment when it comes to children so to see my friends joke about it does frustrate me. Hooks explained it so well in how children really are a reflection of us and how we were raised. Children observed and learn from the adults around them. We need to do better and demonstrate the love that they deserve.

Just the intro and the first chapter have made me feel seen and opened my eyes so much. I’ve never thought about defining the word love. It just seemed like a feeling that we all knew and understood. However, Hooks’ argument of a universal definition for love makes me realize how important it is for the other person to love the same as you. This applies to all relationships including friends and family.
