Apt Pupil: 3 stars
What in the hell did I just read?! I raced to finish this just now because yesterday I was too scared to sleep in case I got nightmares. So twisted and creepy and dark, which I guess is King’s MO, but not mine. I do think the story was brilliantly executed, and I liked the beginning a lot, but once the animal abuse started and escalated from there I’d had enough. Good riddance, onto the next!

Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption: 5 stars
What. A. Masterpiece. Having seen (and loved) the movie, I was able to pick up on the foreshadowing while still finding it hard to put this novella down. The adaptation was brilliant and stayed true to the source material, but I’ll give the edge to the book for the writing, plot, and wonderful characters. Can’t wait to see what the next “season” has in store!
