Ok I’m 70% through and I’ve been vibing with this book much more. Actually enjoying it. Pleased she’s made a note of attempts to learn about the indigenous people who lived nearby, and she recounts much more of the history with appreciation for indigenous knowledge and practices and putting colonists and western thought in its place for its heavy hand in destruction.

Not sure I’m going to finish this one, at 20%. This is a book for a very specific audience. I am not that audience.
I am blown away that the author detailed some history of her area ecologically and never once mentioned the indigenous people who lived there, though she referenced the “explorers” (colonizers) and their records. Apparently, it was densely populated with bison but they just “disappeared”!
