Oh! I should have known there was going to be a heart wrenching moment since the book is set during WW2 but I still felt blindsided. The author weaved the story and you felt like you were in Terrace. Safe small town. Carefree youth. Death arrives and the clouds disperse with somberness of war more of a reality.
