“Men of action are the involuntary slaves of the men of reason. The worth of things depends on their interpretation. Certain men make things which other men invest with meaning, bringing them to life.”

“No intelligent idea can gain general acceptance unless some stupidity is mixed in with it. Collective thought is stupid because it’s collective. Nothing passes into the realm of the collective without leaving at the border – like a toll – most of the intelligence it contained.”

Every sentence in this book manages to be quote-worthy. And it’s so rare I see myself in a character but it feels like the narrator thought what I think, with the only difference being his ability to put his thoughts into the right words. Formidable is the lightest way to describe this 😅

This is an acute observation from Pessoa. Actually right now I am reading a book exactly about that (Trust, from Hernan Diaz). The power to bring some ideas to fruition at a large scale is usually in a few hands. Fortunately, modern times have brought us crowdfunding, democratizing access to funds, hence mitigating that involuntary act of "enslavement".
