I’m sorry this book’s plot and characters just suck

I can’t stand this new Goodreads app update … when I scroll it randomly thinks I clicked to rate a random book and therefore have read it when I just tried to scroll down 😡

I like the nature writing and the autumnal vibes, but the plot is dry and kind of maddening/depressing/bleak, as well as the main character.

This is like the quintessential autumnal book. That is, for those who enjoy an emphasis on nature, particularly Scottish natural landscape and flora and fauna, nature horror, personification of nature, themes of a troubled/scorned solitary child… it’s quite gothic and horrific. Jumps around to dif vignettes of Janet’s childhood. Idk I guess it’s hard to place this story in a box.

This is okay. I really like the writing, and it’s funny at times. But mostly bleak.
