Did you read the first one? It's on our family shelf and I never did read it.

I did! I quite enjoyed it too, though I think Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld did it a touch better. (But that's just my opinion!)

I kid you not I contemplated that one at the bookstore the other day!!! Are the characters teenagers in Leviathan?

Yes, but the cast is so age- and culture-diverse, and the audiobook narration by Alan Cumming is downright incredible! I read them both as a teenager and as an adult, and they remain some of my favorite books to this very day. Plus the illustrations were a big reason why I wanted to become an illustrator myself.

I'm absolutely the biggest shill for these stories, I could talk about them for HOURS lol (plus I talked to someone IRL about them today basically unprompted). The writing style is fabulous, the plot is airtight and well-paced, and the characters have really phenomenal development. They're basically 10/10 books for me and I recommend them to anyone who might even have a passing interest in them.

I will go back to the store and buy one of their used copies this week. 😁
