I picked it up thinking it would be a breezy read. However, it’s anything but that. There’s so much reading between the lines that you could blink and miss something.
I’m also quite intrigued by Amma’s character; the way she quietly shrinks herself, the moments when she shows up, while the men of the house can comfortably choose when to do so. Just love Shanbhag’s portrayal of women in this novel more than anything.
