I don’t want to be a hater but sometimes I can’t resist. WHYYYY do authors insist on starting romance books with an FMC dating a bum just so she can find the MMC * SO MUCH BETTER*. Like are we unable to just have a gal be single??? Why make the first boyfriend such a painfully loser-type dude who she immediately breaks up with 2 chapters in. It’s soooo overdone

Real. I don’t remember this FMCs ex being a bum though? They just didn’t really like each other anymore and she didn’t know how to break it off because he was actually nice?
