So far this is slow story line with only a little bit of action. The mouse/cheese references are starting to annoy me. I still find the story hard to read out loud. But the kids still seem to like it.

Hmm two chapters where not much happened. The story seems to be slowing down a bit. At least the cheese references dropped. Guess it's hard to put a cheese reference in when your main character is being buried in sewage.

The font makes this book hard to read out loud. The simple story and cheese/mouse references continues. The cheese references are getting a little stale.

Oh no! All the hero mice have been taken out except for Stilton who seems to have a case of scaredy mouse (his words not mine). Can he save the day?

The villains have struck! The super plants are attacking the innocent people. Lucky the hero mice are here. What will they do?

I must admit I didn't really know anything about the books until I saw one in Target last weekend. Also didn't realise there are so many books and spin-off series till I got to the library (there is one set in Prehistoric times, space, medieval, a heroes one and a Indiana Jones style one plus the original detective series. There might be more but this was all I saw at the library). I am reading it out loud to Master 7 as it is a little advanced for him. I don't want him to be turned off by the harder words, he also gets intimidated by "chapter" books so we are working up to them. The text in this book is medium sized font with different fonts to highlight some words, and pictures are scattered through out. Story wise it is simple (so far) but lots of cheese jokes and mouse references (sayings like "great Swiss cheese" and names like "New Mouse City" and "Mouse Island"). In this book I like the subtle literary reference with the name Hercule Poirat. Based on only two small chapters where not much has happened yet (Stilton has just arrived at a city celebration and the baddies have just turned up) I like the story. It is cute and a funny enough to make me smile ( the kids haven't laughed out loud like they did with good guys yet and not sure how long the cheese jokes will be funny for). Master 7 said he really likes it so that's a good start, and I am not finding the story boring either. Finally I only realised after adding the book to good reads that this is book 4 in this series, but I haven't felt like I need to start at book one. I don't feel like I have missed anything starting at book 4 and I normally hate not reading a series in order.
With all the different series there would be one that would appeal to anyone. I grabbed three books from the library last Wednesday to see what they were like. There is one series (the Indianna Jones one) that has the female characters as the lead characters. You could perhaps start with that for your Miss 7?
I will make sure I put comments in my updates to give you an idea of the book as we progress (we are doing one chapter a night).
Hope my answer helps, typing it into the tiny reply box on my iPhone doesn't help me keep track of what I am saying so hopefully it makes sense.
