Finished the prologue and chapter 1! Might read more throughout the night, as chapter 1 is fascinating. Amazing establishment of the isolated castle. Laura’s childhood experience with the “apparition” is unnerving. The language feels surprisingly modern for 1872. Loving it so far!

Chapter 4 finished! So much sexual tension. Going in, I thought it would be more implied and subtle considering when this was released (serialized between 1871 and 1872), but Carmilla and Laura’s is so blatantly romantic/sexual. It’s really fascinating.
