Folks I am convinced this book could have (or rather, should have) been a 30-page research paper at best

Major echo chamber moment where I realised a lot of Indo-China ancient history and geopolitics is not, in fact, common knowledge, and needs to be restated in simplistic terms at the beginning of the book so people can understand and follow.
