A gothic classic, but not the book to pick up if you’re looking for something genuinely scary. The story doesn’t really amp up until about halfway through. “Nell, my Nelly.” 😭 Nell never truly belonged anywhere, and it’s heartbreaking that the one place that seemed to welcome her was Hill House. A haunting story about loneliness, belonging, and finding refuge in the very place that destroys you.
