I gave up on this about 100 pages in - mistake?

No I think that is a very valid choice. I’m not liking this quite as much as I was expecting. The ideas in the book are fun but the execution isn’t all there for me. It’s interesting enough to read but I don’t think it’s for everyone.

I felt discombobulated - as if I had missed something major. That sounds like the execution you mention

I've got a physical copy of this on my bookshelf that I've read - Its been some years since I read this, but I'm targeting reading another Cisco in the new year. Too much chaotic potential for me to leave it at just one of his books.

I see a lot of good reviews of Cisco’s work. This book seems very smart and there is a lot to dig into. The second half gets pretty chaotic which is fun. The writing reminds me a bit of SciFi where ideas and world building are dominant over prose. Sometimes that’s not my favorite. But I would be curious to see more of his books.
