This book continues to have strengths and weaknesses, whilst the practical conclusions pushed are good I fear the support is weak in places, e.g. (awkwardly) I'm not convinced his doctrine of man as the image of God has space for Christ as its exemplar and ultimate.

I'm torn....
Roberts is brilliant on some points, for instance rightly and powerfully identifying Equality, Liberty and Rights as modern idols (perhaps the defining Idols of our time).
BUT some of his theology is concerning, I fear his anthropology unintentionally undermines the incarnation.

The first chapter is a bit pedestrian and may owe too much to Van Til (in places pushing overly simple antitheses that brush aside genuine complexity); BUT chapter 2 is brilliant particularly noting that the modern concept of Liberty is an idolatry/worship of the self.
Liberty/Freedom is a key false God of our age - seeing that makes so much else drop in to place.
