the presumed platonic bffs were romantic partners, i was never ever before this fooled by anything. that said, i did enjoy watching someone struggling through the unsavoury parts of trauma and writing and grappling with memory vs. reality, but i'm not convinced i'd recommend this book to anyone, or found it insightful re: the subject matter. other people are distant stars and we can only come so close

not very proud to admit that at times this has me thinking, just get on with the story. i fear i'm not very appreciative of these memoir hybrid works that dangle somewhere between fiction and non-fiction. most interesting so far is the central friendship between a man and a woman that is very physically close with no indication of attraction (yes i am surprised, you barely find this sort of friendship in fiction)
