Unwise Oldman’s Reviews > Black House > Status Update

Here I trembled.

Until this very chapter I was convinced that Burnside was the Crimson King — trapped in the body of an old man at a nursing home; and I can’t help but wonder if that might have been better.

Jack’s amnesia concerning the Territories is both a frustrating motif and a depressing reflection of reality.

Did I just read a 70 page Prologue? 😂

Fifty pages in and we are already in the shadow of the Tower. How this must have delighted Tower Junkies twenty five years ago!

Long-winded and convoluted introduction. Difficult to grasp because there is almost no plot; it is all character and setting. T1 was equally bold in its introductory chapter, so it is evidently by design—but it is a style that only a published and critically acclaimed writer (or a duo of them!) could sell to a publisher.
