Chapter 4: The War on Terrorism Goes Global
I wasn’t old enough in 2003 to understand what war even was, but my understanding until now was that everyone at the time “believed” in the intelligence case to invade Iraq.
Definitely not the case.

Chapter 10: “The Good War”
Getting to the Obama presidency. I had known some of this based on “A Promised Land” but obviously this is from a completely different perspective.
Wild. The next chapter is titled “The Drone Presidency” and that should be interesting.

Chapter 8: Surge
Biggest takeaway so far is that there is a world of difference between Iraq and Afghanistan and most people did not understand that at the time.

Chapter 7: “We are out of Schlitz”
Go Big, Go Long, or Go Home
Crazy to read how politicians literally discussed military strategy like they’re playing a game of “Risk”

Chapter 3: Tora Bora
The most frustrating chapter thus far. The reality that our government was literally drafting the Iraqi invasion as Bin Laden was fleeing Tora Bora is, ludicrous; heartbreaking even - to think what could have been avoided.

Chapter 2: Toppling the Taliban
- George Bush basically lays out the blueprint that the war is against all terrorism, regardless of their involvement in 9/11.
- Initial U.S. invasion of Afghanistan forces the Taliban to “surrender” (which basically means nothing)
- Going to war with an idea is impossible.

Chapter 1: 9/11
Would highly encourage anyone with any questions about 9/11 to read the 9/11 Commission Report.
Also did not realize how many 9/11 families are still fighting for justice & accountability via lawsuits and investigations - heartbreaking.
Great read so far!
