Shane Sturtz’s Reviews > Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster > Status Update

Rob Hall, the leader of the crew, wasn't able to make it down the South Summit. He tried to rescues Doug Hansen to no avail... everyone was telling Hall to come down but he was physically unable.

A stretch down the mourning that usually only takes 30 minutes, took 10+ hours because of the weather!

Crazy crazy wind and snow storm! Nobody could make it back to camp without problem.

Crazy. Krakauer made it to the top of the summit and he was barely excited because he knew the dreaded descent was just as big of an accomplishment.

"In order to succeed you must be exceedingly driven, but if you're too driven you're likely to die"

Scott Fischer's lead Sherpa was so devoted to Fischer that it may have proved costly. Again, all about politics, money, fame, power... maybe not all about

The politics are crazy. Money, fame, press , etc. are all at play, and these guys and gals are trying to survive and climb the mountain. Crazy.

Heartbreakingly scary story about how the head Sherpa died on the mountain without oxygen and they waited too long for treatment.

Rob Hall, the leader of the expedition, could sense something bad was brewing... politics of who's on the mountain, money, crowdedness...

The lure of Everest is crazy. People can't resist.
