For a book in which part of the premise is humans turning spontaneously into animals as a medical matter of course, Habeck seems really deeply incurious about the natural world or about actually fully exploring that premise. Considering she just like, casually drops that sport hunting still exists in a universe in which you could be sport hunting someone's literal grandma, lol.

My feelings about this book are shaping up to be very similar to my feelings about Remarkably Bright Creatures, which can be summed up as "this author comes across like she wanted to write something Super Weird(tm) but is the kind of reader who wouldn't be caught dead reading anything actually weird."
