This book has some serious laugh out loud dialogue between military dudes

“I thought about how I feared things being irrevocably finished… had it been that long ago that I was eighteen? How could a human being deal with such swiftness, with such unrecallability?”

BROTHER! Again, the main character is describing me- “I have come to distrust periods of extreme happiness and now when I discover myself in the middle of one, I glance nervously around me.”

“Remember it when you’re looking at your face in the mirror thirty years from now and seeing an ugly old man instead of a smooth-skinned cadet. It’s the quickness of it all that will surprise you. The incredible swiftness.”

“God planned that the world was to be a vast orb of disillusionment and pain. He planned it that way and it pleased him to see that the plan was letter perfect.”

“Bad teachers do not touch me; the great ones never leave me. They ride with me during all my days, and I pass on to others what they have imparted to me.”

“It is a precious, world-transfiguring stare when a girl looks at you with love in her eyes for the first time.”

“I knew that I was living out one of the most important days of my life.”

Ok, the main character is literally me. The constant joking during serious situations, I mean come on

“I never seemed to learn from joy; I earned my portion of wisdom through sadness.”
