First time reading NDDP in English and I forgot how profoundly saddening and maddening this novel is. Hugo truly said 'let me tell you everything about gothic architecture and the audacity (and monstrosity) of men'.

Fun fact: As an illiterate child, VOL I was my most loved possession (I would carry it everywhere). I guess this explains an awful lot about my mental health as a very literate adult. Book osmosis.
