I was quite moved by the entropy argument—the idea that humanity is born into an inherent tragedy. If we do nothing, entropy inevitably increases; therefore, we must constantly seek and consume energy merely to exist, live, and create meaning. It reminds me of the Buddhist saying '众生皆苦' (all sentient beings suffer) — wisdom from entirely different origins can share the same fundamental roots and insights.

I finished Chapter 3 today. It feels like a very classic Western academic style of writing—scholarly and sophisticated. The language is not particularly easy to digest, and the author certainly works to persuade readers of his points. So far, it is more argumentative than evidence-supported, but I assume that empirical evidence will emerge in the coming chapters.
