The story begins then veers off to extensive histories of peripheral characters. Slugging through unimportant descriptions. “words tumble like ice..” “intelligent fingers” “ my legs cried rivulets of dirt”. The story would be better off as a novella. The only character i liked was Santos which had little to do with the story.

I couldn’t get past the first chapter when the “hiker” never learned how to stat a fire with matches! what? Disbelief and dislike for her followed me throughout the book.
