There is no way a kid would discuss a painting by Nicolas Poussin and describe it as a “moral uplift”. What the? I’m beginning to think that the execution of this book is all wrong. I would have restructured it in a completely different way because at the moment, it’s formulaic and telling the reader what they should believe with each artwork.

I can’t take any more of this. Every chapter is set up the same way. A bit about Mona’s life then a description of an artwork then a lecture from the grandfather talking down to his granddaughter who is going blind; she returns the dialogue as if she’s an adult not a 10 year old discussing art history. I love art but the manner in which this book is written makes me feel I’m being lectured to as well.

I like the concept of this book. Each chapter dedicated to an artwork in the Louvre. I’m searching them online and looking at art while I read. However I’m finding it a bit repetitive maybe a bit too obvious? The grandfather lectures his granddaughter, a child, about each artwork but it’s the way he does, the words he uses, which is unbelievable. To adults of an art appreciation class yes, but to a child?
