The Joy of Erudition’s Reviews > Revelation > Status Update

Drew Karpyshyn, I find you guilty of the crime of wantonly abusing the phrase "he/she admitted".

Maybe 26 times doesn't seem like a big number spread over a novel, but it feels like more, especially when it's just someone answering a normal question, not making a confession.

You know it's military sci-fi when they keep telling you the exact makes and models of the guns they're shooting.

When I read Becky Chambers' The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet, it gave me a real Mass Effect feel in the relationships among the crewmembers. In Bioware games, the character relationships and romances were one of the primary appeals, so Chambers' work was what I expected a Mass Effect book would be like. This is nothing like that. This is pure military science fiction.
