im about to start crying in the club. this gives me a whole new frame work for what quilting means. I am on my textile journey rn and have already been appreciative of spinning/weaving etc. but quilting is gorgeous. In a time where women, especially black women, had no freedom, quilting allowed them choice in a meaningful way to create soemthing beautiful. And could give some measure of economic success. Beautiful.

"Textiles are carriers of cultural memory, so much so that when the spanish conquered teh incan empire in the mid-sixteenth century, the incans offered them gold and silver but hid or even destroyed their textiles so that these precious obejects did not fall into the wrong hands." you can take my bands but you cant take my drip
