they all have their desires/what dominates them and it turns against them
carrie - telekinesis (a desire to fit in/get away from the constraints of her mother/identity) - in a way her wanting to be known led to her ultimate humiliation
sue - prom
margaret - religion/fear-striking God
Billy - his car
Chris - honestly idk it has to be more than just humiliating Carrie - exercising power over her?

the story is about control? selfishness? wreaking havoc over others as a form of independence and freedom?

with the lens of control - you can look at carrie, margaret, chris, billie, sue,

women exercising power over men? idk hmmm

a world of sexual power? thats why carrie stands out? bc she was the only one without that sort of experience?

He didn't talk when he drove; he liked to drive. The operation gave him a
feeling of power that nothing could rival, not even fucking.

]“If they kill each other, I'll dance with you.”
“They look too stupid to kill,” Carrie ventured. “Like dinosaurs.” And
when Frieda grinned, she felt something very old and rusty loosen inside
her. A warmth came with it. Relief. Ease.
“Where'd you buy your dress?” “I love it.”
“I made it.”
“Made it?” Frieda's eyes opened in unaffected surprise. “No shit!”
Carrie felt herself blushing furiously.

She had left
Momma alone.
“Nervous?” he asked, and she jumped.
“Yes.”
He laughed and got out. She was about to open her door when he opened
it for her. “Don't be nervous,” he said. “You're like Galatea.”
“Who?”
“Galatea. We read about her in Mr. Evers' class. She turned from a
drudge into a beautiful woman and nobody even knew her.”
She considered it. “I want them to know me,” she said finally.

billy out of control, chris scared of him and what he can do in a way. billy is the first boy chris felt as if she couldnt control. her original intent was to withhold sex from him as a form of getting what she wants, but she "gave in." Chris has sort of like a dull numb relationship with sex - she uses it to give in to those who lust after her.

They looked at each other, and neither said a word.
She felt that her heart would break if he uttered so much as the wrong
sound, and if he laughed she would die. She felt—actually, physically—her
whole miserable life narrow to a point that might be an end or the beginning
of a widening beam.
Finally, helpless, she said: “Do you like me?”
He said: “You're beautiful.”
She was.

scared tommys not coming so she moves things, wants to destroy the house, tells her mum to shut up

ope, losing even the power to think?
No. Oh dear God, please no.
(please let it be a happy ending)
(oh please god let it not be a joke)
(he's not coming)
(don't think about it a watched pot doesn't boil he'll come)
(no he won't he's out laughing at you with his friends and after a little bit
they'll drive by in one of their fast noisy cars laughing and hooting and
yelling)

This is a story about growth and moving beyond high school and tradition and childhood i believe?
Carrie wanting to be beyond her mother - prom/womanhood/discovering powers is a chance to
Sue wanted to be popular and go to prom her whole life, letting Carrie go instead was a chance to change
chris is like her father, she has been the same her whole life.

yet chris wins in the end - not letting carrie move on
