I have wanted to read this for a while as I love some of his short stories. Emily the monkey is "...an African in Europe, a female in a man's world... and above all an old-fashioned creature in a modern world..." Written in 1930 the opening pages use racial terminology which a modern reader should find offensive. However I'm hoping the basic humanity evident in Collier's short pieces may over-turn that by book's end
