I think part of the reason why Im not enjoying the book as much as I'd like is because I really couldn't relate to the later part of Arnie's character. In fact I hated reading about him. Yes he's a teenager so of course he's going to be selfish. But his overwhelming obsession with the car is something I don't get - I'm not that much into cars anyway. Maybe car enthusiasts will relate to this story more?

"He waited until he had some kind of control, and then got up and went downstairs to tell Regina what had happened. He would tell her and she would think of what they were going to do, just as she always had; she would steal the forward motion from him, taking whatever sorry balm that actually doing things had to give, and leave him with only sick sorrow and the knowledge that now his son was someone else."

I'll say it again. For me, the scariest thing in this book isn't the cursed car. It's the thought of your child growing up and being am unrecognisable person.

Some recurring King themes: rage, revenge,bullying but one thing stand out: the family, for once. Michael, the dad, might be the best character here.

The 2nd part of the book is getting a bit predictable. Hoping the final part will deliver!

The real horror is that you and your child might have had the best relationship ever when they were little and then they have to grow up to a point that you don't recognise them anymore

I also do wish we could have spent more time exploring Arnie's "loser" past, as well as Dennis and Arnie's deep friendship - because it seemed to me that Arnie dropped his persona very quickly, and when the 2 dudes are with each other I felt a certain "nemesis" tension, instead of best friends.

One criticism I might have is that the romance came a bit too fast and a little unconvincingly.
