And done! Honestly I don’t really know what to say about this book, it truly is the embodiment of “all life is meaningless” in a way. The twists were fun as much as they were tragic and the ending really cements the sense of inevitability of human failure. “There is love enough in this world for everybody, if people will just look. I am proof of that” this line hurts more knowing what happens.

I also enjoyed this line: “What Can a Thoughtful Man Hope for Mankind on Earth, Given the Experience of the Past Million Years? […] Nothing.” This line seems to sum up the pessimism that filters into this book, as the only source hope is of a religion that fronts itself as a bunch of lies. Also rereading the start really highlights the circular structure and foreshadowing that I somehow missed. Crazy book.

Enjoying it more now- the satire is just as heavy as it has been throughout but the twists are adding to the story. I did not expect the narrator to become the leader of the island and am curious as to where it goes next. All the islanders being Bokonists and the entire constructed feud between the past leaders to emphasise the religion was also a crazy revelation. Pretty interesting story.

Still reading- I have to admit it’s taking a bit of effort to continue reading this book though I don’t really know why. It’s not bad in any sense, it just hasn’t properly “picked up” in a way, I can tell it’s building up towards something though as it’s pumping through origin stories. Excited to see if all this build up pays off

After procrastinating yet again reading this I have decided to continue- it’s funny as realistically I do really enjoy reading this book I just always fall out of my desire to read when reading it for some reason. I’m super interested in where the plots going and the narrators evident disdain towards the children, or specifically the ice-nine. Why is that?

I’m practically caught up with where I was before though some plot twists still got me- i don’t have a very good memory after all. But despite that I’m enjoying this a lot more than my first time trying to read it as I knew what to expect with the writing style- last time I was caught off guard. Still a messed up story

Quick preface beforehand- I have previously read like 50+ pages before having to read books for English so this is somewhat a reread to start off but then it’s all new stuff. I plan on annotating this book for fun, probably my first time doing so!
