The timelines are really starting to pay off now, and the consequences of everything that happened years ago are showing up in the adult relationships. There was a lot of family conflict, some genuinely ugly behavior, and a few relationship developments I did not expect. I’m very invested now and also deeply suspicious about how some of these characters may connect.

The connections between the characters are getting tighter, and the tension around the school is finally starting to hit everyone on a much more personal level. This chapter irritated me BAD, but it also feels like everything is about to come to a head.

The stories are getting more interconnected, and the multiple POVs are finally starting to make more sense. Everybody is struggling in some way, and the past and present timelines are slowly showing how all these relationships overlap. I’m definitely more invested now, even though these people are exhausting me.

Robbie’s relapse was sadly predictable once drugs came back into his path. Lacey May is increasingly frustrating Dani with her choices around Hank, Robbie, the house, and the girls. Diane’s accident made it especially clear that both parents failed in different ways. The 2002 school-integration conflict now appears to be the point where Jade/Gee and Lacey May/Noelle’s worlds begin to overlap.

Read/listened to What’s Mine and Yours. Made it to Chapter 5, July 1998. Lacey Mae is stressing me out BAD. Keeping the house as rental income makes way more sense than selling it because Hank wants her to.

This is already messy in the best way. The timelines are jumping, the family connections are starting to form, and I can already see how the same patterns are echoing across generations. I definitely have to pay attention, but I’m invested.
