The coal town sounds like Valentine in RDR2, although that’s a cattle town.
As for the trek with Louisa, that sounds horrifying.
The whole thing is wild. We are blessed to be where we are in technology and society (even with its discrepancies)

I find it really fascinating how the book kind of moves the way time did then. So quick and bountiful but also boundless. Their departure was sad

So far, I like it. I like the narrations and the way it’s worded. I like Samuel’s want to just do good, Hailey’s want for simplicity and Alison’s ability to just be a child despite having to work.
The setup has been good for the first four chapters. I look forward to what’s to come!
